Children and Youth

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6

Something for Everyone.

Sunday School

Sunday School begins at 9:30am.  Our Sunday School model for elementary aged children is Wonder and Worship, an interactive, storytelling-based way of experiencing the Bible.  After experiencing the story together, Pre-K through 2nd grade and 3rd grade through 5th grade break off into separate cohorts for further, age-appropriate reflection.  Junior High and High School youth have their own class, which is often based around living one’s faith in daily life.

Nursery

Our nursery is available during Sunday School and Worship for children 6 weeks through 4yrs old.  Our Nursery Director, Ms. Lora Turner, is always accompanied by a paid or volunteer assistant.  All nursery workers have been background tested. (you can find our Safe Child Policy here.)

Children’s Church

For the first through third Sundays of the month, elementary children are invited (but not required) to attend Children’s Church, an interactive worship and learning experience held during the latter part of our Sunday Worship.

Church Camp Conference

Our children and youth who have completed 2nd grade and up are encouraged to go to our regionally sponsored summer camp.  Our Discovery Camp (for those who have completed 2nd and 3rd grade), Junior Camp (completed grades 4th and 5th), and CYF Conference (completed grades 9-12th) are at Central Oklahoma Camp in Guthrie.  Our Chi Rho Camp (completed grades 6-8th) is held at Oakridge Christian Camp.  We also participate in regional retreats throughout the year with our youth.

Children and Youth: LOGOS

LOGOS is our cornerstone program for children and youth.  LOGOS is an intergenerational program which allows both children and youth to engage God in community.  Based on our four practices of the early church found in Acts 2:42, LOGOS includes Bible Study, worship skills, recreation, and family time where a full dinner is served

LOGOS, which means “The Word” in Biblical Greek, is held on Wednesday nights when school is in session.  Elementary children participate from 4:45pm to 7:10pm.  Junior High and High School students participate from 5:15pm to 8:00pm.

Children’s Worship

Children and youth are a valued part of our worship experience.  Children of all ages and activity levels are welcomed for the duration of our worship service.  A “Children’s Moment” during worship invites the children to gather at the front of the Sanctuary to experience the day’s scripture in age-appropriate language.

Youth Experiential Learning

Our youth learn through experiencing God throughout creation and the wider human family, so our program includes several opportunities to form and explore faith, including:

  • River Sports - Each summer we end our time together with a day trip to River Sports in OKC. We challenge ourselves through the ropes course, zip lining, and work on team building through white water rapid rafting.

  • Eureka Springs - The first youth trip, generally taken in early Junior High, includes the Great Passion Play, Holy Land Tour, as well as other team building activities.

  • Mission Trips - Youth are encouraged to participate in mission trips, which may be in Oklahoma or in other states. Internationally, we currently partner with American Caribbean Experience (ACE) in St. Mary, Jamaica, and youth are often encouraged to participate.

  • International Affairs Seminar - As Juniors in High School, many of our youth decide to participate in the regional Internal Affairs Seminar (IAS), which is a week of focused learning on a justice topic with importance to the church in Washington D.C., and New York City. IAS is a mix of learning, experiencing two international cities, partaking in art and history, and engaging with faith-based responses to real issues of our time, such as immigration, human trafficking, and economic policies.
